Academia

Since there are high expectations for the role that academia is likely to play in nuturing innovation, CIC operates and participates in programs in collaboration with academia (universities, national research institutes, etc.) to support activities aimed at solving social issues and creating an ecosystem.

Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem(GTIE)

GTIE is a platform for “fostering world-changing university startups” led by the University of Tokyo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Waseda University. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and other local governments serve as the lead agencies, and the joint organization consists of 13 universities and startup support organizations, with universities and local governments participating as cooperating organizations. GTIE aims to nurture and create university-launched startups that can compete globally, and to create an ecosystem in collaboration with universities, local governments, private companies, VCs etc. participating in the “Startup Ecosystem Tokyo Consortium. CIC Tokyo participates in GTIE as a joint organization.

Keio University “2040 Independent Self-Respect Project

The Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI) has launched the “2040 Independent Self-Respect Project” as an initiative to protect the “independence and self-respect” of individuals and nations and to create a healthy society. “Independence and self-respect” means the dignity of self and others, and to do everything based on one’s own judgment and responsibility, which is also the basic principle of Keio University. This project aims to resolve the nation’s social issues in a more multilayered space through the fusion of different research fields – science and engineering, medicine, and the humanities and social sciences – and through dialogue among academia, including students, business, government, and overseas institutions. CIC Tokyo and Keio University have teamed up to promote various projects to solve the problems of 2040 (e.g., super-aging society) by connecting researchers, companies, and students.
